What’s up everybody, this is Tyuno The Great. June 5, 2012 was Day 2 of E3 2012. Microsoft and Sony have already presented their press conferences, now all eyes were on Nintendo. This E3 was very big for Nintendo because it was the year that they would show more detail on their new console, the Nintendo Wii U. Everyone, include myself, waited with excitement to hear what Reggie Fils-Aime will unveil at their presentation. So the question was, What does Nintendo have in store for E3 2012?
Before E3 even started, Nintendo held a surprise Pre E3 Show. Nintendo’s Satoru Iwata hosted a special Nintendo Direct as he explain more detail on the Wii U. Iwata announced the official name of Wii U controller, The Wii U Gamepad, and explain it functions. Iwata also announced the new Wii U Pro Controller. After hearing that, I assumed that there would be a ton of action games dedicated to the more hardcore gamers. After Iwata’s presentation on Nintendo’s Direct, I was excited to hear more on the Wii U at their press conference.
On June 5 at the beginning of E3, Nintendo finally held their press conference. The wait was over, every Nintendo fanboy was on pins and needle to hear what Nintendo had in store for the Nintendo Wii U. Nintendo began their press conference strong with the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto announcing the most wanted Nintendo game, Pikmin 3. After Miyamota left the stage, Reggie Fils Aime took the stage and start discussion about the details of how the Wii U will bring people together. At this part, this is when the press conference began going down hill. There were more talking about the Wii U specs than about the actual games that would be on the Wii U. Soon after all the talking we finally hear about what game would be on the Wii. It was revealed that a new edition of Batman: Arkham City will be coming to the Wii U. In Addition, games like Assassin’s Creed 3, Rayman 3, ZombiU, Mass Effect 3, and more. Afterward, we was given a preview of what new game would be coming to the Nintendo 3DS, such as Luigi Mansion 2: Dark Moon, Paper Mario Sticker Star, and New Super Mario Bros. 2. Afterward, there were more talking about things that most casual fans don’t really about. Finally to close out the press conference, Nintendo unveil their brand new game for the Nintendo Wii U, NintendoLand. After the press conference was over, my first response to the Nintendo E3 2012 press conference was “W.T.F”.
Once the conference was over, I was both disappointed and confused. I was disappointed because there were no games that would appeal to the more hardcore gamers. It’s true that games like Assassin’s Creed 3, Batman Arkham City, and Mass Effect 3 are coming to the Wii U, but many gamers have or will already play them on other systems, so why would you port older games to a brand new console? I was confused because I wonder why Nintendo wouldn’t release more of their own franchises like Star Fox or Metroid. In the past Nintendo was known to not having a lot of third-party games for the Wii, now it seems that the table have turn and there are more third-party games the first party games. I wasn’t impress with the games announce for the Wii U at launch because it looks like it was target more for little kids. I guess I disapprove of Nintendo press conference because I was expected a lot from them. I was more focusing on the software then the hardware. The Nintendo 3DS press conference was better in my opinion then the Wii U presentation because it revealed more games that I see myself playing.
Overall, The Nintendo Wii U press conference fell flat. Now I know that Nintendo will announce more games in the near future, but now I don’t see myself purchasing a Wii U any time soon. So tell me what do you think in the comment section below, what did you think about the Nintendo E3 press conference? Do you think you would buy the Wii U?
